Solution Focused Meetings (SFM) provide an opportunity to partner with families engaged in the child welfare system. This training is designed for staff engaging in facilitation of Solution Focused Meetings. Participants will gain an understanding of integrating family meetings into the practice of Solution Based Casework. The training will provide guidance on the utilization of SFMs within the Milestones of Solution Focused Casework and engagement and preparation with families.

Objectives:
• Participants will understand the integration of Solution Focused Meetings within Solution Based Casework.
• Participants will increase their understanding of Solution Focused Meetings within the Milestones of Solution Based Casework.
• Participants will increase knowledge of engagement and preparation for Solution Focused Meetings.
• Participants will increase their knowledge and experience with facilitating Solution Focused Meetings.

TRAINERS:
Katie Henniges - Katie Henniges has over 23 years of experience in the human service field and has been employed with Families First since June 2005. Katie provides support and direction to supervisors and direct care staff through group and individual supervision to ensure quality services are being delivered to those families served by Families First. Katie is a Trainer for Child Safety Conferences and is an approved statewide Trainer Solution Focused Meeting and Youth Transition Decision Making Meetings. Katie has also facilitated trainings in partnership with the Iowa Department of Human Services for supervisors and direct care staff across Iowa. These topics have included but are not limited to: Family Interactions, Engaging Non-Custodial Parents in Child Welfare, Placement Stability and Quality Case Visits in Child Welfare.
Jesse Thomas
Jesse Eash Thomas currently works to provide supervision and leadership in her role as a Family Centered Services Program Coordinator for Four Oaks in the Cedar Rapids Service Area. Jesse has worked as a facilitator and/or supervisor for 12 years; however, she has worked in the Child Welfare System for 23 years in a variety of positions.  Jesse has an AA degree from Kirkwood College and studied Psychology, with a focus in Behavior Modification, at the University of Northern Iowa. Jesse is an approved Iowa State Trainer since 2017. In addition to her work with Solution Based Casework and Facilitation, Jesse also sits on the Linn County Community for Change team and facilitates RPI: Race the Power of an Illusion and UIRB: Understanding Implicit Racial Bias Learning Sessions.
 

Registration will begin at 8:30AM. Training will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. This training is scheduled until 4:00pm. Lunch is on your own.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the curerent DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
