Understanding Trauma: KINNECT Level 6-Future
DESCRIPTION: System inv olved children and families are often conditioned to live in the moment at the expense of planning for the future. Environments of poverty, dangerous neighborhoods, dangerous homes all create a demand on the human to be acute ly aware to what is going on right now because the brain is designed to add ress current threat first. The KINNECT curriculum is designed to build a pr ogressive set of skills that lead to future orientation. This last 5 sessio ns of KINNECT allow the participants to look forward to future activities b ased on previous experience and begin to plan with positive thoughts and en ergy to engage in pro-social processes. The final week of KINNECT acknowled ges that too often our children in need are unable to see or feel a future that is hopeful and masterful for them. KINNECT provides the opportunity to experience mastery, excitement and working together in a multi-modal way w hich research shows is the most efficient way to learn.
