Description: Dangerous Playgrounds 3.0 will prov ide an interactive blended learning approach designed to increase participa nt awareness about current trends related to substances of abuse - both leg al as well as illicit. Participants in this training can expect to learn wh at substances of abuse are, what they look like, how they are used, termino logy, and various associated paraphernalia. In addition, participants will learn the behavioral indicators (physical, psychological, emotional) of spe cific substances of abuse. The class will likewise connect behavioral indic ators, environmental concerns, and physical symptoms of use to their impact on safety, risk, and protective factors in child welfare. This class will provide a broad overview of substances of abuse with an emphasis on current trends and those most likely to be encountered by those working with youth and families. Participants will leave this training better equipped to und erstand and navigate the often complex world of substances of abuse encount ered in your work.

Please note: Priority seating is provide d to staff working within one of the DHS child welfare contracts, including : Community Care; Group Foster Care; Family Safety, Risk, and Permanency (F SRP); Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervis ed Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Ser vices (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the child welfare contracts with the State , you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
