ng is a person-centered counseling technique utilized to elicit behavior ch
ange. This practice session will focus on developing a collaboration relati
onship with individuals to explore and resolve ambivalence to support chang
e aligning with one’s own personal values and concerns. The session will bu
ild upon a prerequisite eLearning course to deeper explore and demonstrate
the principles of Motivational Interviewing.
We
are highly encouraging you to take a pre-learning course prior to this in-
person course. A basic knowldge of MI will be needed for this training, and
that will not be covered in this in-person training. If you have a Relias
account, you can take two short trainings, Motivational Interviewing, REL-H
HS-0-MI-V2 and Motivational Interviewing in Clinical Practice REL-HHS-0-AMI
-V2. Or you can sign up for a free training through the Florida Certifcatio

Andrea Dickerson is a Licensed Therapist a
nd Certified Substance Use Counselor who has worked in behavioral health si
nce 1997. She is currently the Director of Behavioral Health at YSS. She be
came a Motivational Interviewing (MI) trainer in 2006 and has provided MI t
rainings throughout Iowa. Andrea specializes in working with adolescents an
d their families in residential and outpatient settings. Andrea is also a C
ARF International Surveyor, going around North America ensuring behavioral
health organizations are meeting required standards.
Sar
a Butler Shoop - Sara Butler Shoop is a LMSW living i
n Burlington, IA with her husband and two young children. Sara has been a
Trauma Informed Care Coordinator through the Child Welfare Provider Trainin
g Academy since 2012 and has worked with children and families for over 30
years.
Registration will begin at 8:30am. Training will begin promptly at 9am. This training is scheduled until 12pm.
Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare se rvice contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Resid ential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergenc y Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); R ecruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partner s; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
