In-home workers face many difficul ties, including working with clients with mental health conditions. Mental Health Fundamentals explores five common mental health conditions and gives staff practical guidance on how to guide clients without getting caught up in their drama. Attendees will learn about the connection between genetics , environments, and lifestyles in the development of a mental health condit ion; techniques to assist clients to replace maladaptive behaviors with pos itive ones; and skills to de-escalate clients experiencing a mental health crisis. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to underst and how personal experiences impact relationships with clients experiencing mental health conditions, be able to identify the diagnostic criteria for five common mental health diagnoses, and able to recognize how adverse chil dhood experiences affect mental health.
Trainer: Billy Claywell - Billy W.Claywe ll, LMSW has been in the human service field since 1988. He has worked as a n in-home service provider, supervisor of a family preservation project, ad ministrator of a family and children’s program, grant writer, and is curren tly the Clinical Director for Corinthian House and provides therapy for the ir residents.
