The Coalition for Family & Children’s Services in Iowa is the member organization representing child and family service providers across the state. Our member organizations deliver essential services to children and families involved in the child welfare, juvenile justice, and behavioral health systems.

Together, Coalition members make a lasting impact—providing care in every region of Iowa, employing thousands of professionals, and helping thousands of children and families each year find safety, stability, and hope.

Coalition Learning Institute for Child & Family Services

Strengthening Iowa’s child welfare workforce through high-quality, accessible training.

Led by the Coalition for Family & Children’s Services in Iowa, the Learning Institute offers professional development and training opportunities designed to support and grow Iowa’s child and family services workforce.

Housed within the Institute, the Child Welfare Provider Training Academy (CWPTA) focuses on core training for child welfare professionals through a partnership with the Iowa Health and Human Services (HHS). CWPTA delivers practical, trauma-informed, and up-to-date trainings that help providers build skills, stay informed, and better support the families they serve.

The Coalition is a trusted advocate at the Iowa State Capitol, working year-round to advance policies that strengthen the child welfare, juvenile justice, and behavioral health systems. We collaborate closely with members, partners, and policymakers to ensure that the voices of providers—and the children and families they serve—are heard and represented.

Through strategic advocacy and relationship-building, the Coalition helps shape legislation, secure funding, and influence system improvements across the state.

Coalition’s Public Policy Committee & Workgroups

Driving systems change through collaboration, advocacy, and action.

The Public Policy Committee plays a vital role in shaping and implementing the Coalition’s legislative and regulatory priorities. This dedicated committee develops policy recommendations for the Board of Directors and collaborates with both established and ad-hoc workgroups.

Working closely with the Coalition’s lobbying team, Iowa legislators, and other key stakeholders, the committee seeks to amplify the collective impact of member agencies’ services to children and families. Key initiatives include organizing the Legislative Breakfast and the Champions for Children’s Awards.
