Understanding Trauma: KINNECT Level 6-Future LOCATION NOTE:Forest Ridge200 6th StreetGruver, IA DESCRIPTION:
System involved children and families are often conditioned to live in the moment at the expense of planning for the future. Environments of poverty, dangerous neighborhoods, dangerous homes all create a demand on the human to be acutely aware to what is going on right now because the brain is designed to address current threat first. The KINNECT curriculum is designed to build a progressive set of skills that lead to future orientation. This last 5 sessions of KINNECT allow the participants to look forward to future activities based on previous experience and begin to plan with positive thoughts and energy to engage in pro-social processes. The final week of KINNECT acknowledges that too often our children in need are unable to see or feel a future that is hopeful and masterful for them. KINNNECT provides the opportunity to experience mastery, excitement and working together in a multi-modal way which research shows is the most efficient way to learn.
